Leah Bonnstetter (b.1995) is an Iowa born composer. She has a Bachelor of Music in Composition and Theory from the University of Northern Iowa. She has studied composition under Dr. Alan Schmitz and Dr. Jonathan Schwabe.

Leah began studying music at the age of five when she began piano lessons. She started to learn the horn at age ten and started learning bass when she turned thirteen. She participated in multiple honor bands on horn and played bass in her high school pep band and jazz band. She sang soprano in her high school choir. She received the Semper Fi Bandsman Award her senior year of high school.

In college Leah has participated in multiple ensembles including the UNI Panther Marching Band, UNI Gold Pep Band, UNI Horn Choir, UNI Concert Band, and UNI Symphonic Band. 

Leah is an alumni of Kappa Kappa Psi Honorary Band Fraternity. While in the fraternity she served as the music committee chair(2014-15), recording secretary(2015-16), and parliamentarian(2016-17) of the Eta Pi chapter. She was also the Midwest District Secretary/Treasurer(2014-15). She enjoys serving the bands with her brothers.  

For composition, Leah has had multiple premiers at various UNI Student Composers Concerts and has had a piece read by the UNI Symphonic Band and a piece read by the Northern Iowa Symphony Orchestra. She also enjoys composing for chamber ensembles. Her compositions are influenced greatly by various film scores. 

Leah is a member of The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers. (ASCAP) 

When not participating in music Leah enjoys spending time with her cats (Aslan and Natasha), training her dog (Crowley), and photographing storms. She is a trained storm spotter and considers weather a hobby.
